Acupuncture

The first record of acupuncture was found in the 4,700-year-old Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor´s Classic of Internal Medicine). This was reported to be the oldest medical textbook in the world compiled from even earlier theories by Shen Nung, the father of Chinese Medicine. Shen Nung documented theories about circulation, pulse, and the heart over 4,000 years before European medicine had any concept about them.

The body is constantly trying to maintain homeostasis by balancing its energy systems. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory all disease is held to be a result of an imbalance between yin and yang energies (Qi) that circulate throughout the body. This energy circulates through 12 main channels and many smaller collateral channels. Each channel is associated with a specific organ. Along these channels are specific focal points of Qi. These points have an effect on the Qi moving through the channel, the associated organ and the immediate physical structures in their proximity. Dysfunction in the organs in the body can be reflected in the acupuncture points and musculoskeletal disorders along the channels can also cause impairment of organ function.

When the free flow of circulation is disturbed certain characteristic symptoms are produced. This interruption causes stagnation of blood and QI, causing pain, inflammation and the body´s inability to carry out the physiological function of that specific area. The result is symptomatology and disease. With acupuncture the physical body and its energetic systems can be harmonized and balanced in mind, body and spirit. This will allow the body´s energy to restore visceral and structural function.
